Hi. I made my final payment to ideal debt solutions in November 2011. They state that I have completed, but I am still awaiting my completion certificate due to this VAT thing!!! I have recently been approached by a company asking if I want to claim back mis sold PPI. Can I make such a claim or will this affect my completion of the IVA?

Tanya - as you still havent got your certificate - you will be still bound by the IVA terms - it is unlikely you will get to keep the money and you will have a bill from the claim company

Thank you for replying!! I was worried that would be the answer, although luckily I have yet to put a claim through. Would it be worth claiming in the future? I am not going to lie, it would be a great help to receive a small payout as I am coming out of work shortly to complete a social work degree

Tanya -- Hi. Whatever the ins and outs of claiming PPI in or after an IVA, never let a company that has approached you deal with it. They will charge a hefty percentage for what amounts to writing one or two letters. There are templates available elsewhere on the net for you to do it yourself.

However ... until you have that completion certificate the money would have to be paid into the IVA --- and I have heard of an ocassion when the IVA was re-opened to claw in a PPI claim !!!

At the moment you don't want to do anything that might delay that certificate being issued ( there is every possibility that your IP might contact you regarding PPI in any case!). And afterwards .... well ... it's up to you how you wish to proceed.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Thank you for the advice! I did alert this company that I was due to complete my iva and the guy said that this wasn't a problem (although he is bound to say that if they get a cut of the profits!!!)
I think I will take your advice and leave it, am sure I can struggle on, I have done for the past 5 years after all :-)

Agree with Foggy - up to you - however some people prefer to draw a line under the whole IVA and previous debt - and start a fresh - regardless good luck in your studies. !!

It has been a hard 5 years and I vow never to get myself in this situation again. I will be drawing a line and looking towards the future. Thank you both for the advice :-)
