You are an absolute angel Sharon, and I will certainly take you up on your kind offer if the need arises. You seem to have a very fair policy in place within your company, and what a shame others do not take a sensible and practical approach.

Frankly I should have thought that a bank, of all types of organisation, would be happier employing someone in an IVA than a person who is up to their neck in debt that they cannot pay.

Like Melanie I know enough about employment law to make it a very dangerous thing but I would hope that you can get the message across that your attempt at an IVA is a sign of positive action to address your difficulties.

Good luck for Thursday Sue.

Oh Sue, I feel so sorry for you. Your Company should be ashamed of themselves. At the end of the day, you have taken positive steps to try and sort your debt issues, and that should be recognised - Shame on them. ! Keep your chin up !

Sue ... I just wanted to add my best wishes ... what a horrible thing to have happened for you ... try to keep your chin up and not to allow it to get you down too much though (easier said than done I know).

Sharon ... thank you for your wonderful and very useful and comprehensive reply ... you are a wonderful 'resource' for us all to have and just goes to show how we all help each other here.

God how awful for you - I cannot believe the attitude of them....like someone said you are trying your hardest to put matters right, and should be commended for that...not make matters worse for you.
Lets hope on Thursday, that common sense prevails and you are allowed to continue working.
Good luck.

Good luck with your meeting. I hope it turns out well for you.
As Melanie said , give ACAS a ring. You can then quote them. Also Sharon will give you good advice
It is so ridiculous to suspend you in this way, as though you've done something wrong.
Keep your chin up and go fight .

this seems so unfair.
you try to make things better and your employer makes things worse.
i would def ring acas if your not in the union, my husband had dealings with them recently and they were really helpful.
its made me paranoid now to check my contract as i'm in finance myself with a LA.
i hope everything goes ok

Hi Bluesusie

I was just so sad and angry when I read about your situation! It's so unfair especially when you are trying to put things right by trying for the IVA. You should be commended for that, at least you are making an effort to sort your debts out and besides it's none of their business really (of course unless it has affected your work performance in the past and it's not just bad debts that can cause that!). There must be lots of others out there now in IVAs thinking what if their employers find out? I have been in an IVA for 8 months now and they do not know and I never want them to know - it's private!

I hope all goes well for your meeting on the 3rd, I would guess they {HR) are just going through the formalities with their procedures etc. Please be calm and try not to worry, get your contract together and go with your head held high. You dont deserve this, I don't think any one has the right to discipline anynone just because of debt issues. Also as advised get in contact with ACAS to see what they can do for you.

All the best

Maz

One of the reasons I went down the IVA route was for privacy and to stop my employer finding out about my debt problems, whatever happened to an IVA being between myself and my creditors only?

Seems now its advertised all over the place, and I fear one day someone I know will find out through these online registers, God I hope that does not happen.

I wish you luck and hope it all works out well for you.
