I am gobsmacked they can do that.

I'm glad I closed my account with them now. you mentioned something when you first posted that sounded like they were trying to get you out. Do you think you have grounds for constructive dismissal ?

Does your contract state that you have to check the intranet for contract amendments ? That seems like a cop out to me - firstly if you don't have time to look, how are you going to know and secondly, if no one draws it to your attention, it hardly seems fair.

IT STINKS.
There's light at the end of the tunnel - it's just that sometimes the tunnel seems so long.

Thanks Emma and John.

The friend that came in the meeting with me had no idea about this policy. It seems that it was something newer employees were made aware of when they joined but nearly everyone I spoke didn't know.

I love your signature by the way John. It's oh so true.

Hi Susie,

I am quite new to this great site, it is such a good source of support. I have been following this thread over the last week or so and really feel sorry for you. By the way this company has treated you i would not personally want to work for this shower.

Try to take some positives from the situation (i know it is easy for somebody like me who has not experienced what you have gone through to say this)you have done the hardest thing by confronting your debt you now need to look at another job, My wife works in a call centre for a mobile phone company and the pay is not much higher than minimum wage, many non financial call centres are always looking for staff and if you are up front with them regarding your dismissal i am sure it will not go against you.

Dont let that excuse for a company get the best of you.....take this as a fresh start.

Best of luck.

Glen

Thanks Angela and Glen. I need to do something as I'm finding myself sinking back into a depressed state.
This site is a great place to be. Everyone's so helpful and non judgemental.

i know it must be hard, but try not to let it affect your health, you're too important for that!!

get the paper and check out what jobs are there you fancy, don't leave it to long!! or you might find it harder to motivate yourself.

Take care of yourself

Try to stay positive Sue, sounds easy for me to say as never been in your position, but as Angela says don't make yourself ill..

Depression is a horrible thing and I have had it myself, sometimes find a nice long brisk walk helps[:)]

Thinking of you at what must be a very difficult time xx

Blimey, you poor thing, you must be feeling so awful. Dont let them make you feel like this though, stuff em. I cannot believe they would kind of say youre being dishonest. Mans inhumanity to man, never ceases to amaze me. Thats on your record now and it stinks, how could they when youre honest enough to hold your hands up and tell them. When its obvious youre so down and beaten. I really feel for you but dont give up just now. You can get through this.

I would just forget the debts and the IVA for now and try to concentrate on you. May be you could retrain for something else, may be this is a wake up call for you to change your career, I dont know but I know what it is like to be totally down there, I lost my job too, not because of ignorant bosses who wouldnt know the cup of kindness if it smacked em so hard in the mush they bled. I mean they could have given a different reason, asked you to resign. Not driven nails in the coffin, the swines. We are all here for you and feel very bad for you, I hope that you can get through, one day at a time and start to see through the cloud and smile very soon.

So very sorry

Frankly this is totally despicable behaviour, when all you wanted to do was to do the responsible thing and do your best to pay your debts. It sounds a very convenient excuse to me.

Lily, you sum things up perfectly. I can't improve on that. Sue, it won't be easy I know but you will have to chalk this up to experience. I for one would never see being in an IVA as being a bar to employing someone, quite the opposite in fact. I really hope that in the near future you find employment with someone with ethics.

Sue, just think.... do you want to be a victim or a survivor!

To have come this far your obviously a survivor and who knows, this may be a strange way of you picking yourself up and moving on.

I purposely decided on an IVA BECAUSE it shows I'm dealing with my financial problems, not avoiding them!

For your company (in my view) to just keep dancing around looking for something to fire you with, that's rubbish!

Constructive dismissal is a possibility in this case AND ask the friend who accompanied you if they would write a statement pointing out they were unaware of this condition in your contract either!

I say sod em and move on! Your far better than that place and worth a hell of a lot more than they could offer!

You've taken the biggest step by admitting that you have a problem with debt... now the change for the better begins.

Good luck and keep positive
