Morning everyone.

I swear by the Cashminder account, so much so that I actively recommend it to all the people I speak to that it would be appropriate for.

I use one myself to put my money where my mouth is so to speak as well and can personally vouch for it. An excellent all round account.

Regards.

I used mine up until recently and there were no problems - I never missed having a branch as the customer service on the phone was so good.

You should be able to open one pretty quickly as well, you can do it on the phone or in a branch.

Hi all, just an update... applied over the phone for the cashminder at the Co-op, took around 10 mins and finally got deferred. I asked if this was common with individuals in my situation and he explained yes, it was probably to do with me only being in my current address for only 6 months. Anyhow just need to wait 3 days for a decision

Fingers crossed Steven. Co-op are usually good.

Can you change bank account whilst in the iva , im with natwest about 6 months ago house insurance policy had gone up by couple of £ i was 17 p short in the bank as it was before payday , they bounced dd, charged my £35 and then following month charged me £38 for being overdrawn !!! so they could have paid it and then just charged me for being overdrawn 17 p ! they wouldnt refund either..... it crippled us for the month . my husband however is with hsbc, and he had a bit of an arguement with them when trying to get out over the counter and he couldnt as he didnt have a chq book( he was waiting for a new one ), he wanted £300 and cashpoint is only £200. he rang them up had a go , they apologised and sent him a debit card instead of just cashpoint card. he has never had any other problems with hsbc and we have been in iva for 3 1/2 yrs. i would like to change thou , would i have to get permission from i to do that ?

You can change your bank account whenever you like. Co-op and Yorkshire come recommended.

Just make sure it's not with one of your creditors though.

I'm still surprised that HSBC haven't closed the account yet!

wow.... husband opened hsbc account before entering iva , we didnt have them as a creditor , i went to natwest. so he has had the account for nearly since beginning of 2005 , do you think they could still the plug on him or possibly not bother now ? we did have joint account at lloyds before, with big overdraft which is why we went to different banks , saying the other was spending too much and needed to keep mortgage money seperatly. however we would prefer a joint account . we have no coop near us , but there is a yorkshire bank , do you think they would give us a basic joint account ?

You don't need a Co-op branch nearby - the Cashminder account can be opened on the phone, you can withdraw money from the Post Office or any Link cashpoint, and money can be paid in at the PO.

The telephone customer service is better than I've ever had in branch of a bank.

HSBC do have a habit of checking their customers and closing down the accounts of people in IVA's. If he's kept it this long, he may be ok though.
