I am currently thinking of applying for IVA.
Would this affect my partner if he wished to apply for credit/loans? All debts are in my name only and we have separate bank accounts.

Hi Tracey and welcome to the forum,

If you live with your partner, you will have to prove he did not benefit from any of your debts. Otherwise, his income will be looked at to make sure he is paying his fair share towards household expenses.

If your finances are linked together, he might find it difficult tog get creditby association. Our IVA is in my hubby's name but I could still get a credit card/ catalogue account etc if I wanted to. Not that I ever would run up any debt again. [:I]

Others will give you more detailed advice, so hang on in there. xx

I don't think that your partner would necessarily be affected, if you have no joint debts or are not married. But you would need to take specific advice on this from an insolvency practitioner who could explain all options that are presently available to you to deal with your debts.

Hi,

Many thanks for your replies - We are not married, and we do not hold any joint debts. I am currently £32,000 in debt due to personal loans and credit cards. My partner has not benefitted from my debts, he pays the house rent as my salary is not enough to cover due to paying outstanding debts.

My partner would like within the next 12 months to purchase his own property again...but I am worried if that I go down the 'IVA' route that this would harm his credit rating.[V]

It is unlikely to Tracey, but as I said seek specialist advice to see how you could present an IVA without involving your partner.
